Demolition work began on the casino earlier this year after Icahn and city officials reached an agreement to have the structure finally torn down. The last time a casino was imploded in Atlantic City was in October 2007 when the former Sands casino was dynamited for a new casino-hotel project.

Pinnacle Atlantic City is planning a new $1.5 to $2 billion casino on the former Sands Casino Hotel site. The new casino is scheduled to open doors in 2011, but at this time Pinnacle is not yet saying what it will call the new casino or what it will look like.
